A fairly common problem, especially for novice users.
Of course, there are technical problems due to which the laptop screen may go blank, but as a rule, they are much less common than incorrect settings and software errors.
In this article, I would like to dwell on the most common reasons why the laptop screen goes blank, as well as recommendations that will help you fix this problem.
Table of Contents
1. Reason # 1. the power supply is not configured
To fix this reason, you need to go to the Windows control panel. Next, an example will be shown how to enter the power settings in Windows 7, 8.
1) In the control panel, select the equipment and sound tab.
2) Then go to the power tab.
3) In the power tab there should be several power management schemes. Go to the one that is currently active. In my example below, such a scheme is called balanced.
4) Here you need to pay attention to the time after which the laptop will extinguish the screen, or darken it if no one presses the buttons or move the mouse. In my case, the time is set to 5 minutes. (see the mode "from the network").
If your screen goes blank, you can try to even turn on the mode in which it will not darken. Perhaps this option will help in some cases.
Besides, pay attention to the function keys of the laptop. For example, in Acer laptops, you can turn off the screen by clicking on “FnF6”. Try to press similar buttons on your laptop (control key combinations should be indicated in the laptop documentation) if the screen does not turn on.
2. Reason # 2. dust
The main enemy of computers and laptops
A lot of dust can affect the performance of the laptop. For example, Asus laptops were seen in this behavior. after cleaning which, the flicker of the screen disappeared.
By the way, in one of the articles, we have already examined how to clean a laptop at home. I recommend that you familiarize yourself.
3. Reason # 3. drivers / BIOS
Very often it happens that a particular driver may work unstably. For example, due to a video card driver, your laptop screen may go blank or the image may be distorted on it. I personally witnessed how, due to the drivers of the video card, some of the colors on the screen became dim. After reinstalling them. the problem disappeared!
Drivers are best downloaded from the official site. Here are links to of. sites of the most popular laptop manufacturers.
I also recommend looking into the article about searching for drivers (the last method in the article helped me out many times).
A possible reason could be the BIOS. Try to go to the manufacturer’s website and see if there are updates for your device model. If there is, it is recommended to install (how to update Bios).
Accordingly, if your screen began to go blank after updating Bios, then roll it back to an older version. When updating, you probably did a backup
4. Reason No. 4. viruses
Where without them
Probably they are blamed for all the problems that can only happen to a computer and laptop. In fact, a viral reason, of course, can be, but the likelihood that because of them the screen goes blank is unlikely. At least, I didn’t have to see it personally.
To get started, try checking your computer completely with some kind of antivirus. Here in this article are the best antiviruses at the beginning of 2016.
By the way, if the screen goes blank, perhaps you should try to boot the computer in safe mode and try to check already in it.
5. If nothing helps
It’s time to carry to the workshop
Before carrying, try to pay close attention to the time and character when the screen goes blank: you are running some application at this time, or it takes some time after loading the OS, or it goes blank only when you are in the OS itself, and if you go in Bios. is everything okay?
If this screen behavior occurs directly only in the Windows OS itself, it may be worth trying to reinstall it.
Just as an option, you can try to boot from the emergency Live CD / DVD or flash drive and watch the computer work. At least it will be possible to verify the absence of viruses and software errors.
