Strategy Analytics has released a fresh forecast for the global smartphone market with support for fifth-generation mobile phones (5G).
It is noted that currently the leader in terms of deployment of 5G networks is South Korea. However, China, which is actively developing appropriate technologies, intends to seize the palm in the foreseeable future.
According to the results of the current year, experts at Strategy Analytics believe that 5G devices will account for less than 1% of the total smartphone sales. However, already in 2020, sales will increase tenfold, reaching almost 10% of the total supply.
Now in the 5G-smartphone segment, the largest supplier is Samsung. But devices with 5G support are designed by all the leading market participants. And in 2020, a large number of devices is expected to appear in the middle price range.
In general, as noted, 2020 will be a turning point for the fifth generation mobile communications industry. Rapid growth in demand for 5G devices is expected in China, the United States, Western Europe and other developed regions.
By 2025, analysts believe that sales of smartphones with 5G support will exceed the symbolic mark of 1 billion units.
