The new realme XT is a mid-range smartphone. And one of the first in which a camera with a resolution of 64 megapixels is installed. In addition, the device has something to boast of: few people are able to offer such a combination of functions and practicality. We figure out what trump cards are in store in the sleeve of the new item.

Quad camera all the stories on the shoulder
The camera interface is minimal and easy to use. You only have to get used to the meaning of some icons. For example, instead of the usual “gear” settings, a “nut” is shown here. Otherwise, everything is convenient and at hand. I am glad that they did not forget to add the manual mode to the camera. There is also a scene detection function: realme XT will automatically set the shooting settings in accordance with the recognized scene.
The main camera received a resolution of 64 megapixels and aperture f / 1.8. The realme XT model is one of the first mass-produced smartphones with a Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor. There are four lenses in total: in addition to the main one, there is also an ultra-wide 8 MP module, a separate macro camera with a resolution of 2 MP, and a depth sensor.
The final pictures in most modes are obtained with a resolution of 16 megapixels, and the 64 megapixel mode must be turned on before shooting. The fact is that to improve the photosensitivity of the matrix, Quad Bayer technology is used, which combines four neighboring pixels into one. Photographs realme XT at a decent level for the middle class. Good dynamic range and fast focusing are the strengths of the device.
The front camera is represented by a 16MP Sony IMX471 module. It will turn out to shoot with or without blurring the background, the settings for beauty are pleasing in flexibility.
Shooting in the dark immediately gives out inexpensive smartphones: both their optics are simpler, and the software works roughly. However, the realme XT camera was equipped with night mode. Several frames with different exposures are glued together into one, it only takes a couple of seconds to keep the device more or less motionless. Photographs taken in this mode please details.
The gadget can record 4K videos. The video quality is good, but you will have to forget about stabilization at maximum resolution:
In 1080p resolution, video is already recorded with software stabilization. True, it works only at a frequency of 30 frames per second. Even on the go, the picture is smooth, as if filmed on a flagship device. But the quality has already let us down – there is a rolling shutter and a jelly effect on small details.
Display realme XT got a diagonal of 6.4 inches. A pleasant trifle – a protective film is pasted from the box onto the screen. The frames on its sides are small, but the bottom is noticeably thicker than the rest. A modest drop-shaped cutout under the front is located on top.
The quality of the display with Full HD resolution is not particularly faulty: all the advantages of Super AMOLED technology are evident. The color reproduction is juicy, the margin of brightness is sufficient for reading sites on the street during the day, the black color is saturated. There is Always On Display feature – notifications and time are constantly displayed.
The fingerprint scanner is integrated directly into the display. The unlocking accuracy is high, it is in no way inferior to devices like OPPO Reno Z. The process is accompanied by pleasant animation, which can be changed in the settings. The scanner practically does not respond to a wet finger, but there is the possibility of an unlock in the face. The function works quickly and can recognize the owner even in the dark.
High capacity battery, fast charge
The gadget is equipped with a 4000 mAh battery. By combining a Super AMOLED screen with an economical processor, the device shows very good autonomy. The device played a test video in Full HD resolution for almost 20 hours without interruption, while the brightness of the screen was set at half the maximum.
In everyday work, realme XT is also doing well: it can withstand the whole day of active use with games and web browsing. A similar situation with games. Half an hour of systematic cleaning of the dungeons in The Elder Scrolls: Blades took away only 6% of the charge. The vitality of realme XT can be envied by many smartphones with a more capacious battery, but worse optimization.
The device supports proprietary technology fast charging VOOC 3.0. First, it charges rapidly, then the speed drops: from 0 to 50% in 35 minutes, from 40% to 100% – about 50 minutes.
What does it look like?
Middle-class devices seem alike, like imperial stormtroopers in armor. But realme XT still has a few highlights. Its back cover pleases with an interesting pearl overflow, and the power button on the side is highlighted with a yellow stripe. The front of the display is as if raised above the frame, this is clearly visible when viewed from the side.
The edging realme XT is made of metal-styled plastic. To attribute such a decision to the minuses is premature. Plastic is a practical material, in winter your hands will not freeze at every contact with a smartphone, and the grip with the palm is good.
An audio jack was placed on the lower edge – in 2019, it is time to relate it to achievements. Next door are the USB Type-C port and speaker. I was pleased with the triple slot: you can use two SIM cards and a microSD memory card at the same time. The decision is rational, but it does not occur as often as we would like.
A block of four chambers significantly protrudes above the surface of the housing. This occasionally causes inconvenience when you pull the device out of your pocket or try to type text while the smartphone is on the table. The case partially solves this problem – a simple silicone is supplied, suitable for the first time.
Convenient shell and NFC chip
The model works on the basis of the Android 9 Pie operating system with the ColorOS 6 shell installed on top. The manufacturer promises to upgrade to Android 10 approximately in the first quarter of 2020. The interface is familiar to everyone who has dealt with OPPO gadgets. The design of the shell is colorful, the elements are intuitive, the icons and icons in the curtain are large.
In the settings there were many convenient functions related to privacy and security. There are black and white lists for telephone numbers, a special children’s mode, a built-in filter for protection against data leakage through applications. Energy saving is flexibly configured and equipped with an intelligent mode. A smart assistant is built into the interface. With it, it will be possible to find out how many steps have been completed in a day, quickly activate the desired application or find out the temperature outside the window.
The shell is not overloaded with third-party software. There are preinstalled programs like Facebook and Lazada, but they are easy to remove. Managing a large smartphone is convenient thanks to flexible customization. There is a choice: use the classic navigation buttons, configure gestures with swipes from the side faces, or prefer the standard version of gesture control “like on pure Android”.
What is the matter with iron?
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset is surely good-looking, so there is enough headroom for any everyday tasks. The graphics accelerator Adreno 616 is responsible for the graphics. The editors visited the most powerful version of realme XT, it has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory.
With resource-intensive games, the gadget copes without difficulty. World of Tanks go with a frequency of 60 fps on the maximum chart, "flies" and the much more recent The Elder Scrolls: Blades. For games in the ColorOS 6 shell, a special high-performance mode is provided. There are no complaints about the device in everyday work either: applications launch quickly, the animation is smooth everywhere.
Sometimes mid-range smartphones look like an even more interesting purchase than expensive handsets. And realme XT is not exchanged for trifles. There is everything that users love: excellent autonomy, a triple card slot, an NFC chip, a decent power reserve and good cameras. There are not many “all in one” options for a reasonable price on the market, the more pleasant it is to see that the manufacturer has released just such a smartphone.
