In the popular space simulator, the professor tried to optimize the route of 22 thousand light years: from the Sol system located on Earth to the most remote human colony of the Colonia system. In the end, Hamlen developed a unique version of the algorithm that implemented the galaxy map in the form of a directed graph. Thanks to this teacher, he was able to determine the most optimal way by which he subsequently broke the world record.
“I thought it would be interesting to see how well I can use science to solve this problem. After downloading the star map data, I wrote computer code to find the optimal flight paths, and then flew the route that he discovered. ” shared a teacher of computer science.
It is reported that about four hours were spent on code development. Using the new algorithm, the professor managed to reach the end point in 1 hour 38 minutes and 11 seconds, which allowed to break the previous record by more than 12 minutes.
